IPL + Laser Platforms: Q&A > Does anyone have an interesting IPL story to tell?
Hi. I was forwarded this link because I suffered pretty severe damage from a Palomar Starlux IPL. I am 38, went in last year to get some sunspots off my face because I grew up in Palm Springs, California...lots of sun. After the IPL I went home and proceeded to have a deep burning at a cellular level, and within a few weeks my entire face volume was lost. Chin, cheeks, temples, borders of my lips, dents in the sides of my nose. It was a nightmare. I have had 4 fat grafting surgeries to date. (Dr. Michael Law is truly awesome.) There are no words to describe how hard this past year has been. Your face is everything....It's what is held in my husbands hands when he kisses me. It's what makes me want to buy a pretty dress and sit in the shade eating fruit salad at a cafe. It's what my little boy traces with his fingers at night before bedtime. It is what is photographed and will be looked at for generations to come. The IPL took those moments away from me, and I am struggling to find my way back.
Goodluck with your presentation.
Also: the IPL was performed at The Radiance Medspa in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The doctor who is fixing my face with a series of fat grafting surgeries is Dr. Michael Law in Raleigh, North Carolina. I'm beyond grateful to this man for his help.
This is precisely the reason that EVERYONE needs to start performing a series of spot tests using several different parameter settings in very small "spots" - and allowing a 24 hour observation period - before actually treating (with IPL OR laser). A few dummies in a hurry can cause bad press for ALL of us.
Thank you very much for the information Cassie. It is a truly touching story that I think will pull on the heart strings of my listeners. Hopefully it will make them think hard about the impact that side effects from treatment can have on a person's life.
If you have any photographs from that time I would really appreciate it. You can email them to ewan_eadie@hotmail.com. I promise to keep your identity anonymous.
Good luck with the surgery, I hope it all works out for you. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
Ewan
We just bought a house in Florida and am moving in a few weeks. I'll be in touch via email and get you some pictures. You are doing a good thing.

Hi,
I am a student at the University of Dundee in Scotland and I will be presenting next month on the possible dangers of IPL treatment. I think the presentation would really benefit from a personal story.
I am looking for someone who experienced side effects after IPL treatment and can give me the following details:
Reason for treatment (hair removal, vascular etc.)
Body site of treatment
Age
Location (only roughly, i.e. US state or other country)
Type of side effect (burn, blister, hypo- / hyper-pigmentation)
How it has affected your life
Photographs
I think the photographs are the most important, especially if you have immediately after treatment and longer term results. I will keep everything anonymous so that no person can be identified.
I would really appreciate this information on the type of things that can go wrong, even if it rarely happens. Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Ewan
