Dermatone Spectrophotometer Skin Typing Device for as low as $719.

Skin typing's a relatively unscientific business in most clinics that's left up to guesswork and questionnaires that have been shown to be inaccurate... But that's about to change with the introduction of a point and shoot skin typer that will give you an accurate measurement but won't kill your wallet. And of course there's no tax and free shipping.

What do you need a spectrophotometer for skin typing? Just accurate measurements.  No big secret there. I've managed to secure a supply of the Dermatone Skin Analyzer. While it may not be much of a looker, it's just the thing for the doc who's looking for piece of mind on IPL and laser treatments.

Hand held spectrophotometers provide a great solution for any clinic that needs accurate skin typing. Unfortunately, it's relatively expensive to secure a 'skinphotometer' or other device from one of the existing technology providers. At least that was the case. Now you get a spectrophotometer as low as $719 if you're willing to buy three. A single one will set you back a mere $859 but there's no sales tax and the shipping on all of the orders is free. What more could you ask for. Here's the info.

Dermatone Skin Analyzing Spectrophotometer

You can now accurately and confidently measure your patient’s skin tone when performing various laser and cosmetic treatments.

The Dermatone Skin Analyzer is a patented technology which gives accurate analysis of skin tones based on the skin’s concentrations of melanin, hemoglobin, and skin reflection properties. Using measurements from this device, doctors and laser clinicians can safely and confidently set the laser parameters for their IPL and laser treatments. This precise measurement of skin tone leads to less guessing of parameters, and ultimately to fewer unwanted side effects and lawsuits. The Dermatone Skin Analyzer is simple to use. It utilizes several safety and calibration features to ensure accurate skin tone readings. The device is designed to fit comfortably in the hand.

To measure the skin tone, just place the tip on the skin and press a button. The results are displayed on the device’s LCD screen. The device is made of the highest quality of electronics and workmanship, and we fully warranty the device for 90 days.We are certain that you will find the Dermatone Skin Analyzer a valuable and indispensable addition to your laser and cosmetic practice.

Correlation of Dermatone Skin Tone Readings And Fitzpatrick Skin Types:

Skin Type I-------------Skin Tones 35-50
Skin Type II------------Skin Tones 50-60
Skin Type III-----------Skin Tones 60-75
Skin Type IV-----------Skin Tones 70-85
Skin Type V------------Skin Tones 80-100
Skin Type VI-----------Skin Tones 95-127

Please note that the Fitzpatrick skin types are very subjective and an inaccurate way of classifying skin tones. One person may label a patient with a different Fitzpatrick skin type as compared to another person. The Dermatone Skin Analyzer will give you a much more accurate reading of your patient's skin tone. Because of the subjective value of Fitzpatrick skin types, you will find that there is a considerable overlap with the above table's comparison of the Dermatone skin tone readings and perceived Fitzpatrick skin type.

The Dermatone Skin Analyzer is best used to compare your patient's skin tone from one treatment to the next, in order to be able to tell if the patient's skin is lighter or darker than before.

I'm not the first one to lament the lack of an affordable spectrophotometer, LH posted the following:

As I was doing a little research today and found derm researchers are using 3 units for looking at the pigment and redness to the skin.

1. Minolta chromameter
2. Dermaspectrometer
3. Mexameter MX16

I am planning on contacting the companies this week. I hope they are less than $5000. We may need to make sure they are Ok to use in the US on humans not in the research setting. They are all made in other countries.

DermaTypeImage.jpgAnd then there's the hefty Palomar DermaType Skinphotometer which weighs in at $5000 when you buy a Starlux or other IPL system and is bound to make you feel lightheaded.

So if you're in the market for a skin typing device, give the Dermatone Spectrophotometer a look. You'll be able to save that other $4k on a vacation.

Note: I had just been linking to a third party that was actually selling these but that company is no longer offering these Dermatone Spectrophotometers. So, I've decide to continue offering these but move the payment over to this site. All support will be provided from the manufacture and not Medical Spa MD. (After all, we're not spectrophotomer makers.)

Allow up to 14 days for delivery since I'm busy and may not be able to get them out same day in the way that Amazon does. (It usually takes around 7 days but I'm not willing to totally commit to that.)
